Revision as of 17:05, 22 July 2019

Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans is an upcoming 2019 direct-to-video film. It serves as the second major film in both series, following Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo from the original series and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies from the 2013 cartoon. It was first teased at San Diego Comic Con in 2017 in the form of a large mural featuring the 2003 Titans beating up the 2013 Titans (sans Starfire), and was officially announced in late 2018 in the form of a promo where graphics of both show's logos and theme songs were spliced in a stylistic fashion. It has not yet received a precise release date, only that it is set to release within 2019.

The film, based on the trailer, presumably revolves around a new antagonist who rallies the 2003 and 2013 Titans and forces them to battle each other to prove which team is superior, only for the competition to be hijacked by the 2003 and 2013 renditions of Trigon, who plunge the Teen Titans multiverse into chaos and kidnap both Ravens, forcing the two teams to put their differences aside to save their respective Raven and defeat the two Trigons.

The production of the film was revealed to not involve any of the talent behind either of the two shows involved outside of the voice actors, and will instead be handled entirely by a new team. The copyright holders of the 2003 series were contacted so that their versions of the Titans could be used in the film, while the team behind the 2013 series supplied their flash puppets and other assets to be utilized by the new team. The 2003 Titans were shown to be animated using Flash Puppetry as opposed to traditional cel animation, as the mid-credits teaser for Teen Titans GO! To the Movies seemed to suggest.

Synopsis

A new antagonist rallies the 2003 and 2013 Titans and forces them to battle each other to prove which team is superior, only for the competition to be hijacked by the 2003 and 2013 renditions of Trigon. When both plunge the Teen Titans multiverse into chaos and kidnap both Ravens, the two teams are forced to put their differences aside to save their respective Raven and defeat the two Trigons.

Trivia

  • This is the first new project related to the original 2003 Teen Titans series since 2007's Trouble in Tokyo, unless one counts the New Teen Titans shorts from 2012.
  • Tara Strong was on record stating that the 2003 series could be revived if Teen Titans Go! To the Movies performed well, or in her words "kicked all butts". Whether this was directly referring to this film or a proper revival following after it is currently unknown.
  • During one of the shots in the reveal trailer, a large assortment of alternate versions of the Titans can be seen, including:
    • The 2003 Titans, sans Raven and Starfire.
    • The 2013 Titans, sans Raven.
    • The New 52 Film Titans (Justice League vs. Teen Titans and Teen Titans: The Judas Contract).
    • All of the Titans in the style of The Night Begins to Shine miniseries, with Beast Boy in silhouette.
    • Raven, Cyborg, and Starfire from The New Teen Titans Comic series.
    • Filmation style versions of Raven, Cyborg, and Starfire from the Teen Titans Go! episode, Classic Titans.
    • Steamboat Willie-esque grayscale versions of Raven, Cyborg and Starfire.
    • A Tim Burton/Addams Family-esque version of Raven with tentacles.
    • Raven, Cyborg, and Starfire from the Tiny Titans Comic series.
    • A rabbit Cyborg, turtle Beast Boy, and bird versions of Robin and Raven.
    • An unidentifiable version of Robin far in the background.
    • A version of Cyborg that resembles a seal or sea lion, with oars for arms.
