"Revved Up" is the sixty-first episode of the Teen Titans series and the ninth episode of Season 5.

Synopsis

When Ding Dong Daddy steals a briefcase containing Robin's most prized possession, the Titans will have to win a road race against him to get it back. But he's not the only one interested in the "prize" as pretty soon the villain Red X appears and soon a whole squad of villains join the race. Will Robin be able to win it back? Will Titans learn the secret of the briefcase? But the bigger question is.. Who will cross the finish line first?

Plot

On a lonely desert road, the Titans face the hot rod-riding Ding Dong Daddy, who has just committed a theft. Ding Dong Daddy, however, boldly challenges the Titans to a road race, with the object of his heist as his prize - and the prize is none other than a special suitcase which contains Robin's most intimate secret!

BB in trucker mode

The Titans accept the challenge, and thus begins a race of chaotic proportions, more so because due to circumstances the Titans are split up, each respective group running into their own set of difficulties:

• Robin races after Ding Dong Daddy on his R-Cycle, but gets unexpected and fierce competition by none other than Red X, who seeks to snatch the case and sell it to the highest bidder.
• Starfire and Raven, prevented from flying by one of Ding Dong Daddy's weapons, desperately seek a wheeled transportation. After incautiously informing Gizmo about the race (who in turn loses no time telling a lot of other baddies about it), they manage to hijack a kit-bashed rocket-booster bus from a bunch of would-be villains.
• Cyborg and Beast Boy, riding the T-Car, have to contend with Ding Dong Daddy's Gremlin Crew driving a rolling pit-stop, who use every chance they can get to try and dismantle the T-Car and Cyborg himself!

Raven is having a very bad day!

Ding Dong Daddy, on his part, uses every dirty trick his hot rod can muster to throw the competition off the track. One of the bombs he drops onto the road almost gets Red X crashed, but Robin saves his rival. In grudging gratitude, Red X jumps off the R-Cycle and turns against the other villain racers, triggering a mass crash and disabling them all, before he voluntarily drops out of the race himself.

Robin reveals his secret

Ding Dong Daddy and Robin are the first to reach the finish, but after Daddy munches up Robin's cycle with his car's jaws, Robin just turns the tables and kicks Daddy out of his car, thus winning the race and regaining the case. Right afterwards, the other Titans roll across the line, and in gratitude for their selfless assistance, Robin decides to show them the contents of the case (which, however, remains a mystery to the audience).

Trivia

• Beast Boy is apparently familiar with "trucker speak," using phrases such as "flip flop" and "bear bait."
• Starfire's alias "Dr. Amazing Mumgon the Terrible" is most likely a play on 3 of the frequent villains in the series: Doctor Light, Mumbo (or the Amazing Mumbo, as he calls himself), and Trigon the Terrible.
• The other contestants in the race (in order of being eliminated by Red X) are: Johnny Rancid, Kitten and Fang, Control Freak, Mad Mod, Mumbo, the Puppet King, Doctor Light, Adonis and Gizmo.
• Many fans believe that Robin's secret briefcase contains a picture of his parents.
• If you look close enough at the baby Robin pictures here, you will find a hidden Slade doll.
• According to The World's Finest, it will remain a mystery what was inside Robin's briefcase.

Whaaa?

Continuity

• This is the second time that Cyborg has lost his leg, and the first time he lost his right leg. The first time was in the season 3 episode, "Can I Keep Him?", when a gigantic Silkie ate his left leg.
• This is the last episode to feature Red X. This episode marks his final appearance in the series.
• This is also the last episode to have its theme song sung in Japanese.

Cultural references

• Control Freak's vehicle is both a large model of his remote control and a TV reference (like his other stuff). The reference in this case being Batman: The Animated Series in the form of the Batmobile, which is most noticeable when all of the villains are "revving up" and Control Freak drives out of a cave just like Batman does in the iconic intro for the series (though in the opposite direction).
• The costume of one of the villains that Starfire and Raven ambushed may be a reference to the iconic Marvel supervillain Galactus.
• The important contents of the suitcase are as of yet never revealed, only hinted to be very important to Robin. This may be a nod to the mysterious suitcase in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction. The focus on cars in the episode may also refer to Death Proof, also by Tarantino.

Goofs

• While the camera pans up above the pickup truck that has Starfire and Raven, Raven's hood is not up when the chicken egg cracked open.
• When Beast Boy and Cyborg saw Ding Dong Daddy's rolling body shop ripping the T-Car's roof away, Cyborg's mouth does not sync to what he is saying.
• There are several goofs on Cyborg's left ear:
  • Before Beast Boy becomes a long-haul trucker to warn Robin into the CB handset, Cyborg's left ear is human when he turned his head.
  • As Gizmo notifies the other villains about the race in order to raise the stakes for Robin's briefcase, while Cyborg hears this on the stereo, his back doesn't have the white parts and his left ear is human instead of metal.
  • Before Beast Boy suggested the same idea and was about to take the wheel and when Cyborg gets in his face saying "For the last time, you're not driving the T-Car!", Cyborg's left ear turned human again.
  • After Beast Boy screamed in panic before the T-Car was about to hit the water tower dead ahead, we can see Cyborg's left ear is human instead of metal again behind his head.
  • After Cyborg was devastated about his "baby" being auto-shopped, and when Beast Boy resumes human form and sits back in his seat, Cyborg's left ear is human again.
  • When Cyborg screamed in panic before he turns the T-Car around his left ear turned human again.
    • His left robotic face also turned light-gray.
  • When Cyborg said "There's nothing left to step on!", his robotic chin turned into the same color as his skin two times back to his gray chin two times normal.
• Before the gremlins could jump on Cyborg's back as the camera cuts to him vaporizing every piece of gear it can reach, the top of Cyborg's head is gray instead of his skin color.
• After Cyborg and Beast Boy came out of the tunnel, and as Cyborg said "Aw, yeah! The T-Car is still in the race!", his real eye is entirely gray.
• There a few instances where the seat belts fastened on the T-Car's backseats do not appear.
