Red X is an anti-hero and was Robin's "villian identity". He could probably be an adult because he calls Robin a kid, but that's probably to just annoy him.

Teen Titans Animated Series

Originally, Red X was an identity Robin had conceived for an unsuccessful attempt to get closer to Slade ("Masks"). In third season's "X" the Red X suit is now in the possession of an unknown culprit who keeps appearing as an antagonist, though not an outright adversary, of the Titans.

Red X's personality is the one major difference between him and Robin. While Robin was Red X, he was even more serious than normal and kept his goal of capturing Slade as his top priority. The new guy, however, is a thief who doesn't want to take over the city or threaten it, but is "just looking out for number one", i.e he steals for the money. When the new Red X first appeared and engaged in battle with the Titans, there were many signs to showcase that there was a new person under the mask. This Red X is revealed to be far less serious, finding his battle with the Titans amusing and being more concerned with messing with them, than getting what he'd come to steal. He also has shown romantic feelings towards Starfire (echoing that of Robin, meaning he could just be trying to anger Robin). He has called her "cutie" and stated that "the only crime here is that you and I haven't gone out on a --" but was interrupted on the word date by Starfire shooting starbolts at him through her eyes at point blank showing he must have some kind of degree of superhuman endurance. Because he usually refers to Robin as "kid", it is implied that that he is somewhat older then Robin himself.

On the other hand, Red X is more of an anti-hero than a villain. He helps Robin against Professor Chang and helps free the rest of the Titans. In "Revved Up", he enters the race for Robin's personal secret, putting himself in a personal duel with his Titan counterpart. But after Robin saves his life, he takes out the other villains participating in the race, tells Raven and Starfire to "Tell Robin we're even...for now," and disappears. He has since become one of the most popular characters to have appeared on the series.

Red X's powers derive from his suit, which allow him to teleport. The belt relies on power from a source called xenothium. His X-shaped palm gloves can form x-shaped projectiles which can act as shuriken, blades, restraints, timed explosives, instant openings and other functions. The suit has been used to effectively and swiftly overwhelm other formidable and experienced superhumans multiple times.

Beast Boy's theory on the identity of Red X

Red X's identity was never revealed during the duration of the series making him one of the bigger mysteries of the show, however in the episode "X" Beast Boy created his own theory of who Red X's alter ego may be, though some of the candidates were a bit idiotic some seemed quite possible, the most likely being Jason Todd the former Robin (seen on the right corner of the board), the reason for this being that Red X and Robin seem to possess many similarities such as voice, body shape and advanced martial arts skill, but the most compelling evidence being that in the comics Jason Todd, after being revived from the dead, took on a new alter ego known as the Red Hood who like Red X was an anti-hero, although their costumes differ somewhat, the exception being their eyes and color scheme, and Jason Todd's later costume (Red Robin) bears even more resemblence to Red X's costume thus strengthening the possibilities. Paul Dini recently revealed that an upcoming episode of the new series Batman:the Brave and the Bold will wrap up the lose ends left in the mystery of Red X.
