Mother Mae Eye

Mother Mae-Eye is a haggish energy vampire with candy-themed magical powers and a mass-produced army of gingerbread cookie soldiers. In her human form, she appears as a plump, rosy-cheeked and kindly woman dressed in a red, white and pink Mrs. Claus-esque outfit, but she is actually a three-eyed, ugly, wart-nosed witch capable of growing and shrinking in size and who feeds on the "sweet, nourishing affection" of her victims, whom she frequently calls her "sweeties," "little ones," "children," and similar terms of endearment (regardless of how old her victims really are); they, likewise, frequently address her as "Mother" and she gives them each a childish nickname ("Rae-Rae" for Raven, "Twinkle Star" for Starfire, "Robby Wobby" for Robin, "Beastie Boo" for Beast Boy and "Borgy Bear" for Cyborg) and a childish outfit as well (an oversized green sweater for starfire, a yellow little girl's dress formed from Raven's cloak, a pink bunny suit for beast boy, no weapons (she refers to Robin's weapons as "dangerous toys", replacing them with items like a teddy bear, a pacifier, two rattles, an egg baby, a jack-in-the-box with Silkie's face on it, and a baby bottle), and a raincoat, rain hat and galoshes). She then traps and bakes them inside a gigantic pie (in a giant potbelly stove) under the guise of their "5:00 bedtime" when their love reaches its maximum; while it may look like she is tucking them in, she's actually securing them in the pie tin-shaped bed so she can cook them alive. Despite appearances, her exaggeratedly sweet, maternal attitude is actually a false image. She cares nothing about her "children"; she really wants to feed on their manufactured love of her. In addition to the pies that she can mass-produce at her will, she is armed with a magical wooden spoon that she uses for most of her incredible powers. She is named after the children's game Mother May I?. Also, she becomes angered when her victims either come out of the spell on their own or refuse to eat her pies. When communicating with the Titans, she usually speaks to them in motherese.

Mother makes her series debut hiding inside a pie that Cyborg mistakenly buys from a gypsy and brings to Titans Tower, where she is subsequently released. She puts the Titans under an immaturity spell by feeding them the pie, which causes them to mentally regress to childlike behavior and come under hallucinations that she is (and has always been) their mother. The only way to break the spell is to be hit over the head with a hard object or if Mother's concentration is broken. The witch also uses her powers at the beginning of the episode to redecorate Titans Tower, transforming it into a T-shaped gingerbread house and the surrounding area into a candyland, complete with fluff-covered fields, lollipops and candy canes for trees and a permanent rainbow streaking across the sky.

After Starfire succeeds in freeing the other Titans from the immaturity spell (beforehand staving off an attack from the HIVE Five while still under the spell; she assumes that the Titans want to "go outside and play" and dresses them in the childish outfits described above, which leads to the HIVE Five laughing at them derisively she receves a blo), they seal Mother back into her pie and send it to the HIVE Five's hideout, where she is last seen giving the villains pie and calling them her children. Mother later returns and joins the Brotherhood, but is defeated; unlike the other villains, she is not frozen, but she disappears when she is hit by Hot Spot and Wildebeest near the end of the fight (though possibly Jinx's hex-magic contributed to this, as mere physical contact is not known to have subdued her).

It is interesting to note that the gypsy that Cyborg buys the pie from and Mother both look and sound exactly alike, implying that they are actually one and the same. This can be verified by the booth that the gypsy uses, for it has one cat's eye on it exactly like the one on Mother's apron and cap.

Mother is loosely based on Mother Grimm, a character featured in a Legends of the Dark Knight storyline.[1] She also is based around the Looney Tunes character Witch Hazel, but only in her true witch form.

Powers and Abilities

Mother Mae-Eye has magical abilities that enable her to manipulate reality as she sees fit. She can create pies through which she can control her subjects who eat them, siphoning their "love" from them. Those who are under Mother Mae-Eye's thrall only see her as a nice-looking kind-hearted woman instead of her hideous green three-eyed actual appearance.
