- What's the matter? Afraid of the light?
- ―Doctor Light to Raven[src]
Doctor Light is a super villain and enemy of the Teen Titans. Though not truly evil, Light is a powerful and intelligent villain who is able to take on each and every Titan. His weakness was Raven's darkness which regularly trounces him with the darkness she contains, and who on occasion can defeat him just by showing up and glaring, so searing are the memories of his beat-downs. However, he manages to overcome it in later episodes.
Character history[]
In his first appearance, Doctor Light attempted to rob a gold transport. He ended up fighting the Teen Titans, where he easily defeated Cyborg, Robin, Starfire and Beast Boy. Raven, however, became so enraged at him that her dark side manifested; she almost killed him when she attempted to drag him into the darkness under her cloak. Once Robin stopped her before any fatal damage could be inflicted, the event left Doctor Light severely traumatized in deep state of shock.
However, even this trauma did not stop him from continuing his criminal career, although it did seem to reduce his ability to be an effective villain. In his next scheme, he attempted to drain the oil reserves on an abandoned drilling platform to supercharge his suit, although he overlooked that the platform was in direct line of sight of Titans Tower. The Titans promptly responded, with Robin disparaging him for failing to live up to his reputation from this mistake ("You know, Doctor Light, for a guy obsessed with illumination, you're not very bright."). After a brief fight, Doctor Light meekly surrendered ("I'd like to go to jail now, please") when Raven appeared right in front of him in her dark form ("Remember me?").
Months later, Light attempted to steal money from the bank vault in the Bank of Perez, but was stopped just in time by the efforts of the Titans, including Bumblebee and Aqualad.
Doctor Light later appeared as one of the recruits of the Brotherhood of Evil, but did not participate in any of the Brotherhood's plans, instead deciding to work on his own. He retreated to the Arctic Circle in his next appearance where he build an amplifying device to channel the power of the Northern Lights into his suit. When the Titans destroyed the synthetic diamond serving as the machine's collector, Doctor Light subsequently kidnapped Kole and used her crystal body as a replacement. While the machine did increase his powers to previously unmeasured magnitudes, he was defeated by the combined efforts of Gnarrk, Kole and Starfire, who damaged his suit critically, shedding its power.
Doctor Light made another appearance in the episode "Revved Up", where he was one of the villainous competitors in Ding Dong Daddy's race for Robin's most secret possession, but was taken out of the race by the mass crash triggered by Red X.
Just before the Titans' final confrontation with the Brotherhood of Evil, Doctor Light went off on his own again and robbed the Bank of Perez after the Teen Titans have returned from their battle. When he emerged from the bank, all the Titans and Honorary Titans were already waiting for him to take him down on masse.
Personality[]
- If at first you don't succeed...
- ―Doctor Light[src]
Doctor Light is a villain who likes to brag, and he considers himself the most accomplished, clever and mightiest villain around. He is always ready to prove his wit by teasing his opponents with idioms or puns relating to light. However, he usually fails to live up to his boasts, mostly because of his inherent overconfidence and a sheer lack of common sense. Thus, he acts more as a comic relief than a dangerous villain. He is also scared by Raven since "Nevermore" as he quickly surrendered without putting up a fight against her. Doctor Light could somehow be afraid of bats as seen in "Birthmark".
Powers and abilities[]
- Your pathetic skills can't outshine the brilliance of Doctor Light!
- ―Doctor Light[src]
Doctor Light appears to be a stereotypical mad scientist. The advanced technology he relies on to create his inventions are pretty effective. Combined with his combat proficiency, he can be a very formidable opponent to take on all of the Teen Titans. However, he ironically lacks the brightness to create a master plan, making him easy to outsmart. His fear of the dark is also another glaring weakness that can quickly lead to his defeat.

Doctor Light's supersuit serves as a collecting, focusing, and amplification device for the visible frequencies in the electromagnetic spectrum, i.e. light, contrasting Raven's powers. He is able to project light in various forms and even control it to a certain extend for the following effects:
- Photokinesis: The ability to manipulate the surrounding light to form any possible thing, imaginable.
- Invisibility: The ability to make one self disappear from sight but still be in the area physically.
- Flight
- Solid light weapons such as blades, whips and shields
He also has Photokinesis and Invisibility. Doctor Light also carries odd technological devices with him, most notably force field generators and flash grenades. However, he is physically very frail and poses little to no threat when his suit gets critically damaged.
Teen Titans Go![]
Due to the events of Identity Crisis, he did not make an appearance in Teen Titans Go! until issue #30, where he plans to steal Cyborg's battery to recharge his own power.

Trivia[]
- Apparently, he was not recruited by the Brotherhood of Evil, despite being in the line-up in "Homecoming - Part 2". They probably considered him a lesser villain, or perhaps he prefers petty theft over organizations such as the Brotherhood.
- Doctor Light's second suit bears a similar appearance to the suit of the villain Shriek in Batman Beyond.
- Doctor Light appears to be extremely afraid of Raven following his ordeal with her demonic form in "Nevermore", as he swiftly surrenders in "Birthmark" after seeing her.
- Raven likewise seems to enjoy scaring the living daylights out of Doctor Light, as she commented that he would "totally freak out" at seeing almost 30 Titans preparing to stop him.
